Doll Quilt Recieved for January

This is the Doll Quilt that I received from
my January Partner Karen who lives in Germany!

All done in Solids, it is just beautiful!!  Her work is
just phenomenal...very nice!!

She also sent along a little minature mug rug (there in the middle)
that matched the doll quilt and the
gorgeous panel of fabric above...

What an awesome swap this month!

Thanks Karen!!

Flying Geese!

I belong to the "Block Lotto"

This is one of the patterns that they did last year when I wasnt
a member.  My friend Kathy in Ohio won the block lotto that month and
made a quilt from these blocks, I just really loved it so I made my own
and busted a ton of scraps...Yippee!!

Heres the flimsy...

This is Duke...testing it out...

and of course my Dahlia...cat tested, lap approved!!

An old UFO finish!

Well, heres an oldie but a goodie!  I pieced this quilt top
about 10 years ago for our spare bedroom at our house.  It was
made with "Kansas Troubles" fabrics and a few scraps thrown in.

Right before Christmas, I told my sister to come over and take her pick of
which quilt she would like...she chose this one..I should have known,
it is SO her color scheme....the backing is a vintage recycled
sheet from the thrift store at at whopping $3!  Score!

Heres a close up picture.  My sister really loves it....

Merry Christmas Roxanna!!

QBSA Swap for January

My partner for January requested a Dresden Plate Block
(insert huge groan here)
I had never made one before.

While I was making it, I actually thought to myself that it wasnt
such a big deal, piece of cake....then I layed it out to add the final section and
Ooooooohhhh...it didnt lay flat!  UGH!!

I fixed it the best I could...but between you, me and the blogisphere...
I dont want to make any more Dresden Plate Blocks!
YUK!

Celtic Solstice is a flimsy!

Wow! What an AWESOME Bonnie Hunter mystery this was!
I really enjoyed making this quilt top.  When the colors came out for this
mystery, I wasnt so fond of the bright yellow and bright greens together so
I switched it up a little bit maker my colors more in the jewel tone range
and replacing the yellow with purple...LOVE purple!

Here are the two stacks of the 2 different blocks in the quilt...

and here is my flimsy...I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! So happy
with my fabric choices...

Of course it couldnt be a post here on "Quilting with Calicos"
unless I showed a shot of the quilt top being cat tested and lap approved...
Heres my Dahlia...

Shes just a little "whisp" isnt she?  LOL!

Paper Piecing Fun

This was a commissioned pillow for a gal at work.  Her
roommate loves Jack Russell Terriers and has one.
So we found this pattern on Craftsy and I set to work.

Its a 12" finished pillow.  It took me most of a day to make it,
it had alot of sections, but I think it turned out wonderful.
She was very pleased with it so thats all that counts.

Heres a picture of the finished pillow with my beloved
Singer 301A "Betsy", she was my moms machine
and she runs like a dream!! Above on the wall
is my Doll Quilt Swap quilt from Sharon Vrooman...its
a mini scrappy tumbler quilt..I LOVE it!

Classic meets Modern-Block #1

Erin @ Sewathomemummy blog is having a
2014 QAL called
Classic Meets Modern.
The gist is to take a classic block and put your
own modern twist on it...
Heres block #1
A Polar Bear Paw Block!

I used some modern Valorie Wells fabric scraps that I
bought from Valorie herself when I was in
Sisters, Oregon for the Quilt show last year.
She had a ton of scrap packs for sale and I
bought a bunch!  So this QAL seemed like a great place
to use up some of those awesome fabrics!

You can check out everyone elses blocks and all the info here:

My 2013 finishes

Well its no wonder why I am always tired!! I never ever stop sewing!  I work a full time job, housesit and bake treats for all the holidays for people..no wonder I am worn out!  This collage doesnt even show all my quilt block swaps, doll quilt swaps (wait, there are two doll quilts in there) or other works in progress...whew!

Its hard to believe and even crazier to show all the quilts and projects that I have completed this year.  Some of the photos are of the original flimsys, but they are all quilted and bound now.  Makes me tired looking at it.  I do love this art of quilting and it is obvious to me that I love to do scrappy bright quilts, thats for sure!  I am so grateful for all the wonderful quilty friends that I have made through blogging, they are the best and you know who you are!

Soooo, call me nuts but I already have Celtic Solstice to finish and another 3 QAL's that I am already planning to do on top of my list of monthly commitments and quilts for family and friends, not to mention commissioned quilts!

Heres my last and final quilt finish for 2013, a Christmas Scrappy Trip Quilt...it went to my son & his family...to cherish each and every Christmas!  Next year there will be four of them...Yippee!

Happy New Year Everyone!!   Lets Sew!!!

(Whoops! I got one photo in that collage twice!)
